I don't really buy this, or maybe I'm missing something. And since there are a ton of new rings and stuff, an optimized build should hit harder.
#Cinders ds3 mod
The mod author argues that since progression has been opened in the game (you can warp to locations and progress in new ways), some bosses are meant to be fought later. I actually cannot fathom just how absurd the boss HPs are. Unfortunately, I have some big issues with the mod. Overall there are so many new options for playing it is incredibly impressive. There are also about 500 new rings to find and use with your build. I eventually was a Paladin fully decked out in heavy armor, wielding a Grant or a Greatshield with a Blunt Sunlight Sword (yes you can infuse unique weapons in this, and buff them too.) While the DS3 gameplay is superior to DS2, I really missed the DS2 poise system and how it offered a different way of playing than just rolling around.Ĭinders also offers a lot of new weapons, particularly weapons from the old game. I eventually settled on Paladin, and decided to play as an extreme heavy armor character because Cinders fixes the biggest problem with DS3 - poise. Overall, certain things are far more balanced in this mod, while others. Here I was pleased to see Soul Greatsword and Farron Dart were both very useful, as was Way of White Corona and all the Dark Magic. You have to gear up a certain way and only a few spells are useful. In DS3 being a mage is quite horrible, imo. I played through Gundyr and the High Wall 6 different times, (with Sorcerer, Dark Mage, Cleric, Samurai, Hunter, and Paladin) and and did not get bored. What I really liked right off the bat was the amount of starting classes, and how fun and unique they were.
The issues largely are based on my disagreement with the modder on game design, and can be remedied easily, but I will get to that.įirst, the good.
The mod delivers in the former, but is definitely lacking as a 'vanilla +' playthrough.
#Cinders ds3 Patch
I played Cinders 1.66 (the current patch is 1.68.)Ĭoming into the mod I expected two things: a) New content that would challenge a DS3 veteran b) Changes and polish in old content to make a new playthrough unique and fun. The mod has an excellent amount of content and changes enough in the game for a new playthrough to seem quite fresh. It is currently the top mod on nexusmods for Dark Souls 3, and for good reason. I haven't seen enough discussion of this cool mod on this subreddit, so I thought I would make a review post.įor my latest play through I decided to give Cinders a go.
